Comverse has announced that TELE2 Russia has selected its Multimedia Messaging Centre (MMSC) and Mobile Internet Gateway (MIG) to optimise messaging and browsing for its more than ten million subscribers.

MMSC "enriches such services as messaging, system alerts and mobile advertising with multimedia content, regardless of the user's handset and network." MIG is designed to deliver mobile Internet that makes browsing "fast and attractive on every handset and provides the operator with value beyond connectivity with capabilities that generate new revenues."

TELE2 Russia selected Comverse MMSC and MIG because it realised it had to keep pace with the evolving needs and preferences of its subscribers, with special focus on such rapidly developing areas as user-generated content, social networks, mobile Internet browsing and mobile advertising. Comverse points out that its solutions are familiar to the Russian operator because its pan-European parent company TELE2 selected the same services last year in ten other European countries.

Both MMSC and MIG are part of the Comverse HUB of value-added services that spans voice, messaging, mobile Internet and mobile advertising. Comverse HUB is a synergistic framework intended for service providers to maximise their business performance and augment their position in the market.

TELE2 Russia has been operating in Russia since 2003, providing GSM mobile telecom services in 17 regions: Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad region, as well as in Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Novgorod, Republic of Komi, Smolensk, Kursk, Voronezh, Belgorod, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov regions, Krasnodar Territory and Republic of Adygei, Republic of Udmurtia, Chelyabinsk, Kemerovo, Omsk regions. At present TELE2 customer base in Russia exceeds 10,422,000 subscribers (as of December 31, 2008). TELE2 Russia has a cellular telecom network in the Kaliningrad region and licences for GSM mobile telecom services in 17 regions of the RF, which will be launched in 2008-2010. The total number of citizens in the territories where TELE2 has licences exceeds 61 million people.

\* TELE2 is one of Europe's alternative telecom operators, with 24 million customers in 11 countries. It provides mobile services, fixed broadband and telephony, data network services, cable TV, and content services. Ever since Jan Stenbeck founded the company in 1993, it has challenged former government monopolies and other established providers. TELE2 has been listed on the OMX Nordic Exchange since 1996, with 2008 net sales of US$5.2 billion and a reported operating profit (EBITDA) of US$1.1 billion.
