Filipino operators Digitel and Smart – both part of market leader PLDT – have signed a direct agreement with electronic payment service iSend to allow their customers to receive top-ups from iSend subscribers worldwide.

iSend, which has over 73 million subscribers globally, allows people to support family members in other countries via electronic payments. Its mobile top-ups are available for purchase at more than 150,000 retail locations in the Western Hemisphere and online. Top-ups transfer immediately to recipients’ prepaid phones at no charge above the normal price of airtime, and the service has become a highly popular means of keeping families and friends in touch across borders.

Steve LaBella, iSend president and CEO, said: “Consumers who purchase recharges for prepaid mobile subscribers of Smart and Sun service will know those recharges will be delivered with exceptional reliability, backed by closely coordinated service.”

Artemio “Jojo” Quiamas Jr., PLDT head of international retail business for APAC & Middle East, said: “Having our subscribers’ phones topped up reliably and instantly from abroad is a tremendous consumer convenience.”
