Data centre provider EdgeConneX has announced plans to enter the Indonesian market with the acquisition of the GTN Data Centre, a Tier III-certified data centre strategically located in Bekasi Cikarang, part of greater Jakarta, and in operation since 2016.

GTN was established via a joint venture between Japan's Mitsui and local IT distributor and integrator PT Multipolar Technology, which is part of Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group.

EdgeConneX has also acquired a plot of land directly adjacent to GTN, allowing for a future hyperscale data centre campus that could ultimately support more than 90 MWs of capacity.

Having[ recently announced plans to build a pan-Indian data centre platform ](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-technology/data-centres-networks/12840-data-centres-in-india-major-plans-from-adani-and-edgeconnex.html)through a joint venture, AdaniConneX, as well as announcing a strategic investment in Chayora, a leading data centre operator in China, the acquisition of the GTN Data Centre in Indonesia represents the third major country in Asia that EdgeConneX has entered as part of its global expansion strategy.

GTN's carrier-neutral facility supports over 50 customers in a nearly 7MW facility located in a secure area with reliable, scalable, and diverse power sources and a 100% SLA record.

In a data centre market that independent research and consulting firm Structure Research forecasts will reach nearly $650 million by 2026, with nearly two-thirds of this coming from hyperscaler demand, Jakarta is another market in the region witnessing rapid growth driven by cloud adoption.

Kelvin Fong, managing director (APAC) at EdgeConneX, says, “As we continue to expand both our edge and hyperscale data centre platform globally, the planned hyperscale data centre campus in Jakarta will give us capabilities to meet our customers’ requirements for capacity in this vital and growing market in the APAC region.”
