PLDT Group’s data centre arm Vitro announced on Wednesday it has kicked off proof-of-concept (PoC) trials with Nokia to develop data centre solutions tailored for AI workloads, including generative AI (GenAI) training and inference.

Under the initiative, the companies are conducting multiple PoC trials for things such as quantum-safe networking (QSN). Vitro said QSN can strengthen its data center interconnect (DCI) infrastructure by using encryption algorithms resistant to cyberattacks using quantum computers.

The PoC tests are being conducted under the auspices of a MoU signed by Vitro and Nokia in October 2024.

Under that MoU, Vitro – which operates under PLDT’s enterprise division, ePLDT – also aims to integrate Nokia’s networking technologies, including its data centre fabric with event-driven automation (EDA), data center gateway routers with AI-supported operations (AIOps), and IP/optical transport solutions.

Vitro said the partnership also covers the exploration of technology solutions and commercial models that will differentiate Vitro’s data centre offerings in the market.

The enhancements will create a more scalable, automated, and secure environment optimized for AI, cloud, and mission-critical applications, said Victor S. Genuino, president and CEO of ePLDT and Vitro.
