Bahrain-headquartered global technology group Beyon announced on Monday that Phase 5 of its Beyon Solar Park programme will enable it to add a third solar-powered data centre to its green data centre portfolio.
Developed in partnership with Almoayyed Solar, Phase 5 will extend across 14,000 square meters, incorporating 2,292 solar panels with a total capacity of 1.5 MWp.
Beyon said the installation is expected to generate around 2.5 GWh of clean energy annually and reduce carbon emissions by more than 1,585 tonnes of CO₂ each year once its completed in the coming months.
Beyon already has two data centres powered by solar energy, including a Tier-III facility in Hamala that became 100% solar last year via Phase 3 of the Solar Park programme.
The completion of Phase 5 will enable Beyon to power a third data centre with solar, said Beyon Group CEO Andrew Kvaalseth.
“Data centres are increasingly fundamental to the digital economy, and we believe their continued expansion should go hand in hand with a more sustainable approach to powering critical infrastructure,” Kvaalseth said in a statement. “Reaching three green data centres represents an important milestone in that journey and reflects the scale and consistency of our investment in renewable energy.”
Beyon noted it has invested approximately BHD544,500 (US$1.44 million) in developing Phase 5.
Beyon added that the Solar Park programme has expanded beyond its data centre business. Earlier this year, Beyon completed Phase 4, extending renewable energy adoption to Total CX's customer contact centre, which it said makes it the first green contact centre in Bahrain.
