Ericsson said on Monday it has extended its strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) to develop 5G solutions for the country’s industrial sector.

The latest agreement is a two-year extension of collaboration between Ericsson and DEPA, which [kicked off in 2022](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-business/vendor-news/15093-ericsson-commits-to-thai-silicon-valley.html) with the aim of establishing an innovation lab in Thailand Digital Valley in Chonburi province.

Now up and running, the 5G Innovation and Experience Studio (5GIX Studio) facilitates trials of next-generation wireless and network technologies, spectrum sharing, and the development of cutting-edge applications tailored to Thailand’s evolving digital economy.

Ericsson said 5GIX Studio has enabled a broad range of technology ecosystem partners to collaborate on innovative 5G applications, including robotics, automated machines and advanced security camera solutions.

Under the extended partnership agreement, both organizations will jointly leverage the 5GIX platform to explore emerging technologies and use cases to deliver 5G solutions that facilitate industrial digitalization in support of the government’s “Thailand 4.0” vision, said Ericsson Thailand president Anders Rian.

“We aim to help build a robust and inclusive 5G ecosystem that empowers industries across the nation and encourages further investment in Thailand,” he said in a statement.

According to Malaysia’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), Thailand’s enterprise 5G market is projected to exceed US$2.5 billion by 2027, driven by demand in manufacturing, logistics, energy, and smart city development, with over 70% of Thai enterprises expected to adopt digital technologies by 2026.

The announcement comes just as Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) said it will [allocate free spectrum in the 4800-MHz band](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-technology/enterprise-ecosystems/19031-nbtc-to-allocate-4800-mhz-spectrum-to-factories-for-private-5g.html) to encourage factories and industrial estate operators to develop private 5G networks.
