A major wireless broadband provider in Zimbabwe has completed the deployment of its wireless broadband network...

A major wireless broadband provider in Zimbabwe has completed the deployment of its wireless broadband network. Now serving a few thousand business and residential customers throughout Harare, uMAX’s network is based on the 4Motion 802.16e solution from Alvarion.

uMax’s network is Zimbabwe’s first 4G network delivering high-speed wireless broadband services to households and small businesses in the 2.5 GHz frequency. The deployment is valued at over $1 million.

Colin Franco, Chief Technical Officer of uMAX parent firm Dandemutande, said: “We believe that there is a significant opportunity in the Zimbabwean market for a high quality broadband service provider and are confident that with our state-of-the-art network we can deliver the kind of customer experience that will pave the way for ongoing growth and profitability of our business.”

uMAX deployed Alvarion’s 4Motion solution to deliver multiple services such as VoIP, video-streaming and high-speed Internet access. Alvarion’s end-to-end wireless broadband solution is designed to supply customers with advanced broadband services at super-fast connections.

In 2013, Dandemutande plans to expand its uMAX network beyond the capital to other cities in Zimbabwe.
