Emerging Markets Communications (EMC) is responding to the demand in cost-effective IP transit capacity in Africa. Its new IP Trunking DVB-S2 platform service is designed for the entire African continent...

The inauguration of EMC’s new DVB-S2 platform service is scheduled for September 15, 2007. Benefiting conventional PTTs, ISPs, and GSM operators and carriers operating in Africa , this new service supports Internet and voice trunking, with a guaranteed CIR (Committed Information Rate) and an additional bursting capability over the whole shared outbound carrier. EMC will provide DVB-S2 through its wholly-owned teleport facility located in Raisting, Germany, using Intelsat satellite capacity and EMC infrastructure comprising of a 32 metre antenna, SDH Backbone and IP connectivity to more than 30 prime IP providers. EMC will supply and finance all the remote equipment in conjunction with financial institutions. “EMC is continuously working on the optimisation of the capacity, technologies and processes that are involved in satellite communications. By launching the dedicated DVB-S2 IP Trunking service, EMC is taking another step in the provision of cost-effective IP transit capacity in Africa”, is the boast of Abel Avellan, President of EMC. Mariano Spini, EMC Space Segment Manager, claims that: “With this new service, cost-effective access to the Internet backbone will no longer be limited to big ISPs and PTTs, but to other smaller players, considering that EMC customers can now buy as little as 4Mb/s aggregate Up+Down traffic cross-connecting straightforward to Tier 1 IP-providers in Europe. \* EMC‘s teleport, features antennae ranging from 32 m to 11 m and below, and over 1,100m2 of hosting & co-location space as well as an onsite SDH PoP for low latency and maximum redundancy. Headquartered in Florida, EMC facilitates its market leading SLAs with its support centres in Argentina, Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia, UK, Thailand, UAE, USA, Kenya and West Africa.
